Coming Next Week to Primo & Summon BrowZine Libraries!
Discovery environments are about to get a whole lot better! Users love how BrowZine brings them to the PDF with just one click, both in the mobile apps and web service. This technology, called LibKey, will be available via the BrowZine API for Summon and Primo next week with other discovery services to follow soon. Even better, there is no additional charge for this great new feature!
LibKey is based on the years of experience Third Iron has in managing all of the complexities required to connect users to articles, including journal entitlements, authentication and linking. The result is an almost magical user experience of clicking on a link and getting immediately to a PDF. No link resolver, choosing sources, navigating platforms or any other aggravating steps that can derail your researchers.
With LibKey, a link directly to the PDF organically appears in your discovery results whenever one is available.
LibKey brings one-click access to PDF documents from hundreds of publishers, thousands of journals and millions of articles!
How do we add this to our Discovery system?
If you already have a standard integration of BrowZine with your Summon or Primo instance, LibKey links will appear automatically starting on Wednesday, August 29. No additional action is required!
If your integration with Summon or Primo is custom, you may need to update your code. Please see our API documentation links which feature updates to the DOI endpoint to add the direct-to-PDF links.
What if we do not want to turn this on and/or want to try this in our sandbox first?
Before August 29, simply revisit your integration and upgrade it with the latest code available at the links here for Summon and here for Primo. As explained in the documentation, you may turn this option “on” in your sandbox and turn your production system to “on” at anytime after.
Are more Discovery platforms coming? Will this also be in the public API?
Yes and yes! We will announce additional support through our newsletter in the coming weeks for commercial services, along with highlighting open source and custom applications using the public API. Please stay tuned.
